Karma is about a key that we may use to organize our life - rather than endlessly agonizing over the seemingly unexplainable, and often unexpected, events forming the fabric of our lives. The subject of Karma is basic to all of us and this doctrine, first fully expounded in Hindu and Buddhist philosophy, is the secret to resolving many apparent mysteries. Albert Einstein said; "God does not play dice with the Universe." It is only through understanding Karma, which does not need a personal theistic view of a God, that we can even begin to make sense of his statement. Each of us, if we accept an ultimate purpose of self-realization, may find it useful to regularly access if we are hitting the 'target' or 'sinning' by 'missing the mark'? A New Testament writer perhaps echoed a sentiment reminiscent of Karma and ultimate spiritual goals when he wrote: 7 "Be not deceived: God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." I have to tell you that for myself, I believe in no deity, no institution, and no religion. I believe in only two categories, one of those categories is the ever-present altruistic potential of human beings. I believe in myself as a human and I believe in other human beings. |
